Sunset Sail Quilt Pattern - PDF - Full Size Quilt

If you have spent any time on the water, you will know the way that it draws you to return to it every chance that you are able. The vastness and grandeur of its presence stills the ever-present gears turning in your head and calms your heart. Nothing matches its capability of destruction. We are left in awe of its power. The ingenuity of mankind in understanding how to build vessels to travel over it and meet every aspect of its character was something that always captivated my father.

There is a term “Crossing the Bar” which is an old nautical saying. Often at the mouth of a harbor there is a sand bar protecting the harbor, which has to be crossed going in and out. The saying refers to crossing the bar for the last time, in this case into the sunset.

Meet Sunset Sail, a Full Size Quilt that features a sailboat sailing into the sunset. This is my second quilt pattern, made as a legacy quilt for my late father, Rodger Swanson.

This pattern is written at an intermediate level with diagrams and instructions written in detail. The design features half rectangle triangles, half square triangles, and strip piecing. I have included blog posts for these elements so that beginners can easily follow along and build on their skills. Links to these are included with the pattern purchase.
